It's A Birthday

So much personality in one pint sized little package.

While under 3 feet tall and still a bit from 30 pounds, 3 years have tap danced their way here.  Clara Belle, you keep us on our toes, make us shake our heads, make us laugh, and make us think, but most of all you make us happy.  We love you!

Eagle Update

If any of you checked the list of websites I like, I hope you have visited the eagles of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.  It has been fascinating to watch the eagles incubate the eggs, watch the eggs hatch, and watch the eaglets which are now approximately 5 weeks old.  There is so much I didn't know about bald eagles, or birds in general.  First off, I didn't know how attached I could become.  The moderators answering questions are phenomenal as well.  I had this on daily in my classroom, and would come on and watch more eagles in the evening.  I was addicted, particularly around the time they were hatching.

Unfortunately, yesterday morning the female eagle was killed by an airplane.  The gardens are right next to the Norfolk airport.  Ironically, the female's first mate a few years ago was killed by an airplane.  She found her current mate within the year, and have been successful parents.  The male was flying with the female, but was able to avoid the plane.

The male was bringing the eaglets food and feeding them, but it was determined by biologists that he was just not going to be able to keep up with their demand, as they are going to triple in size within the next month, and they wanted to intervene before the eaglets' health suffered.  How wonderful it was to be able to watch on the live cam the eaglets being taken by the biologists.  It offered some closure to such a grim situation.

I have not seen it, but based on viewer comments the male has returned to the nest with fish, for his youngsters.  Obviously he does not understand what is wrong, but did take some bites of the fish himself.  No one knows how long they will keep the camera going, but I encourage you to take a look, and maybe take a peek about the story behind these amazing birds.

I share with so many people as we grieve for these birds, though laugh as they have no clue they are being watched by the world.  But I look forward to hopefully seeing a new pair bring new life into this world.  I encourage all.

Still Here

We are still here, and still going strong.  Just extremely busy.  This is the most chaotic time of year in school for me both mentally and regular work wise.  However, I refuse to bring that into the blog.  Not work, just the craziness.

Baby Belle has been sick for 2 1/2 weeks.  She has hardly eaten (no more than a few ounces at a feeding) in over 4 days.  She grabbed a slab of ham off of my plate at dinner and gnawed on it.  While we momentarily questioned this for a multitude of reasons, we decided she was actually quiet and enjoying herself, so we'd just keep our eyes on her and let her gnaw away.  I put her in her highchair and had a whopping 5 minutes to gobble my dinner before she was screaming again.  She has been doing this completely insane scream.  I mean SCREAM! cry.  It's horrible.  We don't know why.  I am giving her until Thursday to get better -- meaning eating, not screaming, NOT waking up 5 times a night.  If she is not better, back to the doctor.  Something else has got to be wrong.  Poor Baby Belle.  I hope her immune system is busy building itself up and that in a year or two she will not have any more illnesses, or the ones she does have will be very short and mild.  She has earned some times of good health at some point.

Clara Belle spent Saturday couch ridden with a fever.  She was much better Sunday, still has a tiny upset tummy, but no other symptoms.  What is going on around here?  And now Big Belle just walked in her after her bath with a bloody nose.  Ew.

It's 7:27, and I honestly will probably be in bed in an hour.  I'm all for early bedtimes as Chris is getting up at 5 for work now days, and my alarm isn't far behind him at 5:30, but with Baby Belle up so much it's just a necessity.

I'm trying not to be such a negative ninny, so I would like to leave you tonight on a good note....In just a few days, some one will be turning another year older!  Her hearts desire right now is bringing cupcakes to school.  So we'll be getting things ready for that soon.

Happy almost 3 Clara Belle!!!!

Helper

Scooby,
I'm thrilled you are comfortable enough with the family to be covered up to play baby...but while I'm trying to do a massive cleaning of that room and your large body is...well...in the way.

Happy Easter!

Baskets are being enjoyed already, with repeated requests for candy being denied.  The Easter Bunny hid the eggs in the front yard this year, so we are patiently waiting until daddy gets home from work to go on the great search.  Big Belle has also declared this the best day since Christmas.  Wow!  Impressive huh.  We're not making it to any church services today.  ClaraBelle was sick all day yesterday with a random fever.  She seems better today, but so far has no voice.  Baby Belle is slowly on the mend but was up about 4 times last night...this momma is tired after the 3 hours of sleep from the night before b/c of sick Baby Belle.  I'm a hoping a nap will be somewhere on the plans for today, but then again you never know.

Happy Easter all.  I hope, as it is here, that this can be one of your best days.

Now if you'll excuse me, the newest and fuzziest member of our household seems to be chewing on something that most likely he is not supposed to be chewing on.  And, if history repeats itself with this as it has everyday this week, that something will most likely belong to a Belle.

Cushy Life

At first, this was shunned.  "No way" I proclaimed.

"I'm serious.  We have to lay down some ground rules.  Nothing with more than two legs on the furniture.  This means you bub."

I used force.  I pleaded.  I begged.  I was stern.  I was friendly.
I felt I represented the pack leader fully.

As long as the pack leader is a camera-wielding,
cold wet nose loving,
fuzzy furry bundled of snugglewugglysweetiepie kissing
person who makes the rules around the house...

...and has decided to make a momentary exception to the rule.
After all, one does deserve a little tlc after spending nearly an entire
year on a cement floor with the cold hard metal bars for a shoulder to lean on,
watching his possibilities flow in and out like the tide....
Just this once.

Ladybugs and Eye Boogers

Random thoughts, because I haven't had time to put together something more formal, and I just haven't felt like doing the Life List this week.  Next installment coming soon.

Scooby -- the dog formally known as Jack -- is doing well.  He still struggles to figure things out, and is restless unless we are all sitting in one spot.  Quiet.  Which really doesn't happen unless most everyone is asleep.  So, thus, Scooby is not at rest unless the house is asleep.  During the day we gate him in our laundry 'area'.  It is an area larger than a crate would be, probably similar to the area he had at the Humane Society.  He doesn't care to be in there, and this morning tried to run all over the house instead of going in there.  However, we just don't trust him enough to let him have the house.  He seems to LOVE the belles' stuffed animals, and if we can't see him, we know he is probably in their room trying to steal one off of their bed.  And the eye boogers?  Those belong to Scooby.  And they're gross.  Clearly one of the things I should've asked about pre-adoption.  "Yes, and can you tell me if the dog has eye boogers?"

Clara Belle is getting very excited for her upcoming birthday, and when we ask her what she wants her reply is: "I want to bring cupcakes to my school".  Easy enough.

Clara Belle also demonstrates quite the imagination.  Lately she has been talking about having something in her ear.  I think she probably has some ear issues stemming from allergies, but nothing enough for me to take her to the dr. yet.  The 'something' in her ear has now turned into a ladybug.  So we always talk about the ladybug in her ear.  This morning in the car on the way to school the ladybug was not awake yet, but when he woke up (I guess it's a he) he was going to take a bath.  It's funny she chose a ladybug, because all of the sudden she has ladybug pajamas that were sent from Nana, a ladybug dress that finally fits as a handmedown, and she got a ladybug tattoo from school yesterday.

I'll try to get to some pictures soon.  Just felt I needed to post something before you forgot about us!

you don't know jack

No really, you don't know Jack.  We'd love to introduce you to him, but his name is no longer Jack (he didn't know that name anyways).

It is our pleasure to introduce to you:

Scooby

He's almost a year old and about the happiest animal I've ever seen in my life....Except for a couple of small things he chewed (here's a good way to thin out the toys in this house) overnight, he's been great.  He loves it outside, and probably feels most comfortable there.  We picked him up at a Humane Society about an hour south of where we live.  His story is that, while he has been fostered for a little while, his entire year has been spent at the Humane Society except for the hours when someone dumped him in a dumpster.  Probably when he was a very wee pup.  Rumor has it he is part Airedale and part Bloodhound, or lab depending on which description you read.  He is a bit long for a lab, but who knows.  So far, he's gotten along with everyone in the house -- resident cat and dog included.  The hardest part has been picking his name.  Don't be surprised if at some point you hear us call him something different.  He's gone to meetings with Humane Society people as the "face" of the Humane Society, and they can't figure out why he hasn't been adopted yet.  But I know.  He was waiting for us.  And while I generally do not believe in using emoticons in blogs, there is no word that fits here to explain things, so I will just end with this.  :)

Stereotypes, part two

I'm in the mood to categorize people.  You know, good-bad; pretty-ugly (and there's my favorite:  prettyugly); nice-mean; animal people and non-animal people.

This post is about the last comparison.  Those who enjoy the company of animals in their home...and those that don't.  I am not delving into the realm of what type of animal; don't get me started on non-cat people who think cat owners are lunatics.  And I'm not going to bring those who own more exotic animals (I'm thinking tarantula on a leash here) into the mix.  This is very simply either you welcome a type of animal into your home as a pet and family member, or you don't.

I really haven't come across too many people who don't own some type of pet, but then again I don't know that many people.  Growing up, a good friend of mine didn't have any pets, but there were four kids in her family.  Who had time for a pet?  But as far as people I knew, I'm pretty sure she was the exception.  Now that Big Belle is sporting a pretty active social life, I guess our social lives are branching out as well.  So far, I have nothing to complain about.  I enjoy that families of the people she is associating with.  But once again, I'm drawn to the different lifestyles people lead, and I've been thinking about pets.

In our house, pets are at the forefront of our family.  We plan our outings around pets:  how long will we be gone, what do they need, who will be home when, what is the weather like for them, etc.  We welcome animals into our home, and so naturally agree to spend money on them.  Sometimes, I find myself thinking about how easy it would be not to have any pets.  Nothing to clean up after (except us people), nothing to worry about -- who has been out lately, who hasn't, water bowls full?, who puked on the carpet now?  ETC.

But then, they take a moment, and welcome me to their world.  Through a lick, or a brush against my leg, or a magical glance they hold for a moment longer than usual that lets you know they appreciate you.  I'm sure there are plenty of non-pet owners out there who wouldn't mind being pet owners, but for one reason or another just haven't yet made that leap.  Be it feathers or fur, it's those magical glances and memorable moments that make you forget the stains on the carpet, the midnight need to be let out, or the scratched part on the couch to let you know you'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.  A furry, warm, occasionally wet, heartbeat, all for you.

Stereotypes, part one

Stole this from another blog, no clue where she got it, so I'll apologize in advance for not giving it credit.  If you know where it's from, let me know, but I thought it was cute and  funny.

Intruders!

The tooth fairy was scheduled to make another appearance last night.  I'm hoping all teeth aren't quite as finicky as this last one, because it hung on for dear life for at least 3 weeks, until Big Belle finally agreed to let her Kindergarten teacher remove the offensive hangeron.  Evidently there was "a lot of crowding around" the event, much to Big Belle's delight I am sure.

So, ring in the tooth fairy.  Said tooth was neatly in its tiny little box that it came home from school in.  A little plastic treasure number made appropriately for little teeth.

Until about 9:56pm.  I know it was that time, because I had gone to bed uber-early and was in the deepest depth of slumberland when I was awoken to the loud panicked whisper of "mommy.  mommy.  mommy.  mommy."  eyes open.  'what?'
"I don't want the tooth fairy to come in my room."
'what?'
"I'm scared.  I don't want the tooth fairy to come in my room."
'what?' (cue leaping stomach as I realize HEYOH TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THE TOOTH FAIRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
"okay.  Go get your tooth, we can put it under my pillow.  She can come in my room."
Tooth and tiny treasure box, securely under my pillow.  Me tiptoeing and hoping the dollar bill I had stashed in my pants from work from the pop I wanted to get but never had time to get was still in there....SCORE!

All was good.  Big Belle checked under my pillow in the morning, dollar bill was waiting.

Phew.

Now, how exactly is she going to handle the Easter Bunny?

Still Here

Feeling a bit overloaded and just blah lately, so I am not very inspired to blog.  I have posts going on in my head, but don't have the oomph to tap them out.  The most recent news, if you're following my school drama, is that the Board of Ed. has passed the recommendation to close our school.  The year round program will take place at two of the elementary schools in the area, being divided by k-2 and 3-5.  Not a horrible option, but certainly not ideal either.  Assuming I have a job next year, and it is in the same position, Big Belle and I will not be at the same school.  That makes me sad.  It also adds to the already hairy situation of dropping off and picking up, meaning it's just one more stop I have to make, and it's possible she 1) may have to ride the bus in the morning and 2) may have to go to the after school program for a little while.  I'm going to stop my whining and complaining here, but just wanted to give you the heads up.

Now, trying to cheer myself back up, enjoy these random photos.

GRAHAM CRACKER!!!
(A couple of weeks old, but still trying to get the cracker off of the stroller seat.)

Life List 41-50

Well...here we are over halfway through with what I have currently on my Life List.  Hoping to fill it up to 100 before I'm done sharing it with you, but I haven't put in any time thinking about it lately.

41.  Create an annual Year in Review photo book.
42.  Camp on the beach.
43.  Delve more into the world of webistes...find a way to earn some money through the web.
44.  Pay for a vacation in cash.
45.  Go snowboarding.
46.  Take Chris skiing.
47.  Go sledding down a very large hill with my family.
48.  I had swim with dolphins on here at this number.  I'm not sure if this is really something I want to be on a life list.  I mean, it would be cool to do, but I'm not sure it is an adventure i really feel the need to seek out.  This one might be replaced.  AH!  An idea.  I'm replacing it right now with go Snorkeling.  Totally good goal for me, seeing as my intense distrust of water...but something intriguing to me.
49.  Take an overnight kayaking trip.
50.  Celebrate many years of marriage to Chris.

Spend More Time Thinking...

Dinnertimes around here have become incredibly crazy.  Now that Baby Belle is eating food pretty regularly, it's not only another mouth to feed, but it's someone else to take care of at the dinnertable.  Yes, I'm complaining in case you were wondering.   Baby Belle's personality is certainly developing, and that happy, content, smiley little peanut...well...takes after her sisters a little more each day.  Fortunately, Baby Belle is FINALLY starting to eat SOME food from me, besides nursing. It has taken a long time.  She has absolutely no interest in babyfood.  Homemade or store bought, which actually makes things a lot easier.  All of this just means that her tummy is also taking a beating, and she has been suffering some really bad constipation lately, poor thing. But I'm totally getting off track here.

Back to dinnertimes in general.

Ugh.

I may have mentioned before what a great tag team the hubs and I make, but I feel the need to reiterate that here.  Dinner preparations are that much more tolerable when you have a partner to share the chaos with.  And since I generally abhore (yes, that strongly) cooking I take all the comraderie I can get at this time.

On tonight's menu:  Italian Sausages in pita bread, spaetzle, salad, (cucumbers for girls one and two) peaches and avocado for number three.  I took care of the salad and the girls' foods and Chris cooked the rest.  Hooray!  Clara Belle was under foot the whole time but had to be put back in her seat a dozen times when dinner was actually ready; Big Belle fell asleep on the couch 10 minutes before dinner (her new routine) and rousing her requires hand grenades, I handed that job off to Daddy, he handles it much better than me.  Plus, she's getting heavy.

Clara Belle is in her seat, finally, and I moved Baby Belle to her highchair -- after forcibly extracting Clara Belle -- then it was time to sit down.  I hadn't cut up the girls' sausage prior to this, so cut away I did.  I'm cutting and passing out and feeding Baby Belle and handing things over and doing this and that and this and that squirting ketchup and pausing to lick sausage juice off my arm and --

<cue record scratch>

wait a minute.

THAT WASN'T SAUSAGE JUICE ON MY ARM.

And Baby Belle is no longer constipated.

What makes this even more amazing to me, is that never in my life would I even CONSIDER licking something off of my arm, or anywhere else for that matter.  What lead my brain to think just THEN would be a good time to start such a habit, I do not know.

Life List 31-40

As I look over this chunk of goals, they aren't really exciting ones.  Exciting for anyone else that is.  They are more of just a 'life maintenance' part of the list.  Oh well.

31. Buy ingredients for each meal every day, for a week, from fresh markets or fruit/veggie stands.
32. Take a family road trip, document what we learned and how we learned it along the way.
33. Take dance lessons.
34. Attend a function in a beautiful hat.  Preferably where someone is not inclined to say, look at that old lady in that weird hat.
35. Photograph 50 of the same subject matter, create a photo poster.  I've started on doors. It's slow going to find interesting ones around here.
36. Crochet something cute and useful. Besides a pot holder, which I don't do anyways. Probably something for the girls.
37.  Crochet blankets for the needy.
38.  Go one week without computers or television -- that includes the smart phone date package.  Chris did not like this one...I think he's hoping that since this is my Life List this one will NOT include him....)
39.  Print all pictures currently stored on the computer.
40.  DO SOMETHING with all the photos I print out.

Life Is Good

... and it's possible it doesn't get any better than this.

This Just In

Allow me to deviate from the regularly scheduled Life List post to share with you this...song.

It's all about:

Cat.

Throw up.

I want to know, does he make a living creating songs like this? Because if so, I'm ready. Even if you don't WANT to listen to the song...please...try it. It's about CAT THROW UP people...you'll never get those minutes back, but you'll have something to think about (and sing in your sleep) for the next few days.

You can thank me later.
