Full of Sarcasm Full of Woe

Whoa.  Wo?  Took me a long time to decide how to spell that.

I'll settle on the poetic version of w  o   e.

Woe begone.  wobegone?                              Woe.  Be.  Gone.

In the past two weeks I have mothered, with help from my superbly awesome parental partner in crime and loving husband, 2 kids through the flu, one with an ear infection, and now a dose of pink eye.  While I can't say I am entirely saddened to be using another -- albeit my last -- sick day tomorrow, I am ready for our house to return to some semblance of normalcy.  At least in health.

While we have absolutely adored the past two days of warmth, not too sorry to see 83 go for now.  It's a bit warm for me you know, we are on the cusp of a big booming thunderstorm at the moment.  Thankfully it is still pre-bed time, and thankfully only 2 of the three children can speak because those that can are doing nothing but whining and crying and cursing each rumble.  I am thankful George the Ancient can't hear every rumble like he used to.

Hey, there's been a study....

Young, childless, married couples are happiest.

Go figure.   They really could've saved money researching this and just asked me.  I am pretty sure I could've predicted that answer.  Guess what, people without children tend to get more sleep.  If I have any more pearls of wisdom, I'll be sure to send them this way.

Okay.  Off to help with bathtime, enjoy some thunder, prebedtime routines, and Lysol the house in hopes that no one else finds this pink eye bug or anything else for that matter.  I just had a huge stabbing pain in my eye.  After battling pink eye myself for 2 weeks right before Baby Belle was born, I really don't feel like going that route again.

TTFN.  I hear someone speaking of eating boogers.  Sounds like a party to me.

Ugh

That's been my word of choice for a while now.

Did you happen to read the last post?  (Fingernails are doing great by the way, but I'm making an awful lot of typos.)

You know, the part where I talked about how great we were all feeling/doing/being, etc?  yeah,  that one.

I'm going to use a word now.  One I rarely use.  One I use even less about myself.

That word is...
Dumb
Ass.

Poor Clara Belle, just had the flu 2 weeks ago, and is now dosed up on Motrin (which I tend to give sparingly when the kids are sick) because I had an ear thermometer reading of 104.5.  Yeesh.  So, we've an appointment at the dr. for their night clinic hours at 7pm.  I don't know, I'm hoping strep, because at least that gets cleared up quickly with medication.

Next time, you can ask me how everyone is doing, but I'm not volunteering that information.  At least not until these awful bugs are far far away from here.  Now please excuse me, I must go nurse my poor sicky.

Nothing. Seriously, nothing.

I plan on giving my horribly mutilated finger nails some tlc in the form of covering them in glue and plastic in a little while, making typing not impossible but more of a pain.  Therefore, I decided to hammer out something now, before I just didn't feel like doing it later.  Let's hope this little bit of tlc will allow me to not pick at them for a while so they can look normal again.

I know, don't you totally want that 20 seconds it took you to read that back?  Sorry to waste your time.
Moving on.

We are all officially healthy once again.  Phew!  In fact, I didn't realize how long I had been feeling under the weather until I got a Z-Pack and some steroids into me, and I feel like a champion.  Better than I've felt in a very very very long time!

Baby Belle has grown both physically and ability wise in what she can do.  Big Belle is going to an official sleepover tomorrow night.  And though something is nagging at me and telling me that Kindergarten is waaaay too young to spend the night at a friend's house, I know this mom, she is a frequent sub at our school, she puts her kid to bed at 7 each night, and she said they will be in bed at 7 tomorrow night too, but be allowed to talk for a little bit.  Okay.  We'll see how it goes.  Basically, having one less mouth to feed at dinner, one less body to worry about what they are doing, and any time when I don't have to say something about someone arguing or fighting with someone else...well, that little bit of peace sounds kind of nice. So, sleepover it is.

So I'm off to do some laundry and put some previous loads away as well.  I am working on some blog improvements and additions as well, but those probably won't be put into place until this weekend.

Until the next time!

Valentine

Given the week it's been, pictures have been few and far between.  Snapped this with my phone before school.  Just thought it needed sharing.  Once again, I do not tell her to pose like that.  I promise.

Fresh air

A teaser of springtime relaxes the mind, soul and body.

A Diamond in the Rough

There was a birthday party this weekend at a local "gem mine". It wasn't actually a mine, but they had it set up as such. I was thoroughly skeptical at best, and doubtful as usually becomes me, that this was going to be anything but fun. Well butter my buns and call me a biscuit, it turned out to be so much fun!  Each child received a bucket full of rocks and sand, a shovel, and a sifting tray. They were seated at a water flume, and after shoveling some mixture into the tray, they put the tray in the flume to rinse away the sand and reveal the rocks, gems, and minerals. It was really neat, because it is actually a large collection of material the man buys from an international buyer/seller of this stuff. Big Belle came away with several beautiful quartz crystals, and even one rock that had some emerald in it. She has a large collection of shark teeth, and some veery cool stingray tooth specimens as well. All in all, I was totally impressed, and look forward to going back here again someday soon.  If the house wasn't infested with sickness, and I wasn't coming down with a cold (let's hope that's all it is) I would've posted pictures of the loot!  Maybe next time.

Can You Please Put the Sun Away -- part two

So, here I had this great title for my post, and I didn't even get to the story surrounding the title.  Ergo, that title made no sense.  Let's try that again.

Since I'm home with a very sick Baby Belle right now, I have a moment.

The other day, after dropping the other Belles off at their respective schools and then taking Clara Belle back home because she was sick, we were driving our beautiful drive home.  It is wonderful among the quiet pines, but going the way we were we were heading straight into the sunrise.  Poor Clara Belle was feeling so awful, she turned her head away and said "I can't get away from the sun.  It hurts my eyes and head.  Can you please put the sun away for me mommy?  Please?"  Oh, it was just the picture of cuteness.  And she was pretty upset that I couldn't do that for her.

Not exactly the post I wanted to write around what could've been a cute story, but Baby Belle needs me.  She is sporting a cheeky 103.5 fever right now, already up a degree and a half from 2 hours ago.  We will be heading to the doctor this morning, as I don't think this is just the result of her well-baby vaccines she had a few days ago.  Poor Baby Belle.  The temperature is supposed to be absolutely perfect the next couple of days.  Mid 60s today and mid 70s tomorrow. Enough to open up some windows and shoo this nasty bug out of our house.  My nose is tingling a little...I really hope it's just an allergy.  A cold at the worst.  There's no time for mommy to be sick!!!

Can You Please Put the Sun Away?

I have had all of these grand plans for several different posts, but sitting down and writing them as been as easy as nailing jello to a tree.  (I've probably used that one before, but along with the "easy as herding cats" it is one of my all time favorite sayings.  The visuals I get just crack me up.)  So here's the breakdown.

1) Baby Belle had her 6 month checkup yesterday.  She is 15.4 pounds and 25 inches long.  Though she started out in the upper echelons of the percentile range, she has dropped down to the 27%tile for her weight.  But trust me, she looks plenty healthy. She is also in the 15%tile for height.  Guess she's going to be sweet and petite like the other Belles.  Say what you want, clothes last a lot longer this way.  And incidentally, I feel it is time for Baby Belle to have a tutu.  Anyone know of tutu store?  We seem to be lacking in tulle and fluffy stuff around here.

2) Clara Belle caught the flu.  Well, so far she is the only one in the house who has succumbed.  Fingers are crossed that no one else will fall.  It hid hard on Sunday with her fever escalating to well above 104.  But we were fortunate on Monday that she was a small member of society who they were being given Tamiflu.  After her first dose she was improving, and by the time I was home with her on Tuesday...well, let's just say it was probably a lot easier on Chris on Monday when she was too sick to do anything.  Let's go back to the expression "like herding cats".

3)  Greta came home "sick" yesterday too.  I have no idea what that was about, because she was no sicker than my left toe -- I crack myself up -- because she was as wild as anythind and her and Clara spent the second half of the day fully irritating each other.  AND, I had to drag all 3 of them to the doctor for Baby Belle's well-baby visit.  Ugh.  4 shots and a flu liquid thingy and a very unhappy baby, who woke up this morning still cranky and in pain.  Poor thing.

Enough for now.  I'll be back soon!

Friday Night Out

Woo Hoo -- we're headed out.  And when I say we, I mean 2 of us.  That's right 2.  And neither of those 2 are under 6 years old!!!!

It only happens a couple of times a year, so we must embrace it.  And, while we will probably only be gone a couple of hours, we will love every minute of it.  Eating a meal without fussing at people to eat, sit, chew, stop talking, sit, eat, take a bite, sit, chew their food, sit, you get the picture.

On top of that, we are using a gift card I received from one of my students for Christmas.

Happy Friday it is!

nothing to say...

and you know what that means.  I will probably end up rambling on and on about nothing and this will turn into a much longer post than I ever anticipated.

Or not, I'm kind of tired.

And kids are going to bed.

So, quick updates:

Baby Belle is on her 2nd round of antibiotics because the ear infection never went away.  They are doing nasty things to her tummy, and my baby belle who never poops is making up for it big time!  Much to all of our displeasure.  Perhaps later I'll excite you with a ripe tale of super poop...but not tonight.

Clara Belle is doing great -- we are coming out of that...that...PHASE she was in for quite a while.  At least, I kept/keep hoping it was a phase and that isn't really what she's going to be like for the rest of her life.... Oh she has her days where she visits the "Thinker Chair" more than she would like, but all in all she is turning out to be a neat little girl.  Her teacher says she is just hysterical, and has such a dry sense of humor.  To which I totally agree.  Even as a baby I said I thought she would be the life of a party some day....Not sure that's a good thing though.

Big Belle is finally cutting back on the whole thumb sucking thing.  4 days now she's gone the whole school day without slurping away.  Phew.  As a bribe  I told her she could get a special treat this past weekend.  After some suggestions, because she does not need another fruity lip gloss, she decided she really wanted a belt.  So a belt it was.  A two pack to boot.  She also has 2 ridiculously wiggly teeth, which have been loose since her dentist appointment back in SEPTEMBER. F ALL out already teeth, I'm sick of hearing about you and being asked to wiggle you.  Jeesh!

That's about it!  The weather is up and down, as is our usual February days.  We start each day about 30, and then reach almost 50.  Thursday we are supposed to get snow -- anyone hear that thunder a couple days ago?  You know what they say, thunder during winter snow within 10 days....hate to say it, but nearly 8 years down here and it's been true each time.  67 on Monday though!  I must enjoy this time before June comes and I have not one nice thing to say about NC.

There, told you I had a lot to say about nothing!  Now I must something to mindlessly watch on tv, because reading my book requires way too much energy, and possibly drift off to dream land a bit early tonight.

Good night!

of nothing much

Baby Belle, we see you there.
We see you being all cute and cuddly and sweet smelling.

You with your tooth just teasing your gums, waiting to fully make its grand entrance.
You with your ear infection that, despite round 1 of antibiotics, is not going to give in THAT easy.
You with your drool.
You with your head shaking
worm wriggling,
giggling
mouthing
smiling
screeching
wide-eyed brilliant
happiness.

We see you!

MWAH!
Biiiiiiig kiss!

Pity party

This is whAt I walk out the door with, and bring home, every single day. Minus the humans.

It includes, but is not limited to:
My pump and bag
Greta's book bag and lunch box
My purse and schoolbag
My lunchbox
Clara and Hadley's daycare bag, and as you can see, a pack of diapers for this day.

Phew.

I don't know, it's just a lot for poor pitiful me. Just give me about a tenth of a second thought some morning, okay?

PS -- the only reason I love NC -- 70 degrees tomorrow. ( but 43 after that )
